Spark is a purpose led business

Āwhinatia ngā tāngata katoa o Aotearoa, kia matomato te tipu i te ao matihiko.

Spark’s purpose is to help all of New Zealand win big in a digital world.

Digital technology is an enabler of stronger, safer, more connected communities. It opens up new opportunities for Aotearoa’s tamariki and can help break down socio-economic divides. It can remove geographical barriers, accelerate innovation, and help New Zealand businesses become more productive and sustainable and compete on the world stage.

The role technology can play in accelerating progress for Aotearoa is what gets Spark’s whānau of more than 5,000 people across the country out of bed every morning.

As New Zealand’s largest digital services provider, Spark supports millions of New Zealanders and thousands of businesses to get the best out of technology – from mobile, broadband, entertainment, and cloud all the way through to high-tech solutions such as AI, IoT, and 5G.

Spark wants to use technology to create a positive future for Aotearoa’s tomorrow and they do that through their incredible team of people who are dedicated to helping their customers win, their communities thrive, and Aotearoa to transform.

Diversity and Inclusion is more than just a buzzword at Spark

Spark believes that creating diverse teams that can use their different backgrounds, perspectives, experiences, and skills to solve complex customer problems is what creates magic.

Diversity and Inclusion is a part of Spark’s business strategy, and Spark is actively working to build a workforce that reflects the rich diversity of Aotearoa. As part of this commitment Spark has an ambition to increase the participation of Māori and Pasifika in its workforce by 5pp by June 2026, and a commitment to achieving 40:40:20 gender representation within its business.

The ‘blue heart’ is a symbol of inclusion at Spark, and everyone who joins the business is invited to take the ‘blue heart’ pledge when they first join, to demonstrate their support towards creating an environment where each person feels comfortable and safe to bring their whole self to work.

Spark is committed to flexible ways of working

Spark provides its people (those in roles who can do so) with the flexibility of being able to work both from home and in the office and equips them with everything they need to do help them create Aotearoa’s tomorrow.

Most teams at Spark adopt hybrid ways of working, meaning being in the office for three days a week, and two days being flexible where people can choose to work from home.

Spark people value the office environment to collaborate and connect, so each team chooses an ‘all-in’ day to be together. Spark’s fun, collaborative, and sustainable work environments provide Spark’s people with spaces to innovate and connect, with modern, centrally located offices in all four main cities around New Zealand.

Supporting new parents and families

Whakapuāwai, which means ‘to cause to blossom’, is Spark’s parental leave package which sees Spark top-up the Government’s parental leave contributions so that primary carers receive 100% of their normal salary for 26 weeks, with continued employer KiwiSaver contributions of 3% during their parental leave period. Secondary carers also receive four weeks paid leave, so they can be present to support their partner and whānau during those pivotal first few weeks of their baby’s life.

The package also includes a phased return to work policy for primary carers, who can work 80% of their regular hours on 100% salary for the first three months of their return. Recognising the critical role of peer-to-peer support, Whakapuāwai also includes a new parents’ support network to help reduce the isolation and separation anxiety that parents can often experience when they return to work after parental leave.

‘Whakapuāwai’ supports Spark’s commitment to achieving 40:40:20 gender representation company-wide and reducing its gender pay gap. It’s available to all eligible Spark team members, regardless of gender, sexuality, age or whether the parent is giving birth to, or adopting a child.
